Microblading FAQs

Below you will find various frequently asked questions regarding microblading, the procedure itself and maintenance tips.
1Can you explain microblading?
Microblading is a semi-permanent tattoo in the brow that is applied by hand (no machine). Safe, plant based pigments are deposited into the very outer layer of skin with very small, individual, feathered strokes that perfectly mimic eyebrow hair. The result is a very natural looking, well shaped, fuller brow that you won’t have to fill in with cosmetics everyday.
2How long does microblading last?
The pigment used in this procedure is semi-permanent, so effects of the procedure typically lasts up to 12 months or longer. Because of the unique qualities of each individual’s skin and lifestyles, we are unable to guarantee how long your results will last. You will likely need a touch up within 6-24 months.
3Who is not suited for microblading?
You should NOT have microblading done if you are: Pregnant or nursing, have a history of keloids or hypertrophic scarring, diabetic (require doctor's clearance), in chemotherapy (consult your doctor), have viral infections and/or diseases, have epilepsy, have a pacemaker or major heart problems, have had an organ transplant, have had skin irritations or Psoriasis near the treated area (rashes, sunburn, acne, etc.), are sick (cold, flu, etc.), have had Botox in the past 2 months, have Accutane in the past year, have heart conditions, uncontrolled high blood p ressure and are in poor general health.
4How is the microblading procedure performed?
The procedure is done using a hand tool, with a prepackaged, sterile, single use "blade" made up of a grouping of needles that are 3x smaller than the needles that would be used in a tattoo machine. With the appropriate amount of pressure, the skin is scored and the pigment is deposited into the epidermis (outermost layer of skin). Think small paper-cuts!
5How long does procedure take?
Your first appointment will take between 60-90 minutes, as plenty of time will be taken to assure that we have created the shape you desire before the procedure is performed.

Your second appointment (4 week touch up) will be between 30-60 minutes
6Does microblading hurt?
Each individual will have a different experience with the level of discomfort associated with the service. Some say it is relaxing and they only feel the pressure being applied. Others say it feels about as uncomfortable as tweezing. Still there are some who will feel that it is more uncomfortable. Two topical anesthetics are used to ensure your comfort level during the procedure. One is applied 15 minutes prior to beginning the procedure and the second is applied throughout the entire procedure.
7Can I have microblading done if I have no brow hair?
Absolutely, this is a great option for those who suffer from Alopecia, Trichotillomania, or have been through Chemotherapy. Microblading can even correct past wax catastrophe, over tweezing, or the normal hair thinning that occurs post menopause.
1Is the pigment used during the microblading procedure safe?
Yes, the pigment used is organic, plant based, and MRI safe.
2What is the recovery time?
When you leave from your appointment your brow area may appear pink, and the pigment itself will seem darker than you may prefer. The day after your appointment few people would notice anything unusual. Throughout the healing process (1-2 weeks) they will slowly fade to a softer, more natural shade, but they will not be unpresentable. Please refrain from having microblading done before going on a beach vacation or a camping trip.
3How often can I get touch-ups?
As often as you would like, as long as 21 days has passed since your last appointment. You most likely won’t want or need a touch up until at least 6 months have passed. An annual touch up is recommended to keep your brows looking optimal.
4How do you choose the shape?
We choose the shape of your new brows together. Whether you are just looking to enhance the fullness of your natural brow, or create a whole new shape, we will take it one step at a time. Your new shape will be applied with a cosmetic pencil first so that you can see how it will look your face. We will not start the procedure until you are happy with what we have created.
5Will my brows look fake?
No, not with the Brow Building method. Because individual strokes are made to closely mimic natural brow hair, most of the time the results are hardly distinguishable.
6Will my brows fade?
Yes, because the pigments used in the service are natural, plant based pigments, they are semi-permanent. But, unlike tattoo ink, they will fade true to color. As your brows fade, they will look soft and natural. And because the pigment is only placed in the outermost layer of skin, the pigment will not bleed outside of the exact place that it was deposited. This means no blurry blue/gray/green/orange brows. Factors such as sun exposure and certain skin care products and services can also speed up the fading process.
7What if I don't like my brows after this procedure?
Keep in mind that your brows will appear darker for the first couple of weeks than they will once they have healed. Once they have healed, we can fix any minor imperfections during your 4 week touch up appointment. There is a removal process, there is no guarantee, but it does generally give great results.
